Hamartoma enucleation, segmental resectionAbstract
Eight cases of pulmonary hamartoma were studied. There were 5 men and 3 women, with a mean age of 54.2 years (range 34 to 63 years). A histologic diagnosis from examination of the resection was obtained in all patients who had operations. Radiological examinations, computed tomography, pulmoner perfusion tomography, bacteriological and cytological examinations were performed in all patients. According to the BT, tumor size were changing in 1 cm 3.5 cm. However, it wasn't correlated with the age of the patients, tumor size increased was observed in old patients. Broncoscopy was performed in 6 patients, with a nondiagnostic results in all of them. Primary pulmonary symptoms were not present in all patients were operated. Enucleation was performed in 5, and segmental wedge resection was performed in 3 patients. Routine procedures used in thoracic evaluation have proved to be uniformly unuscessful, and generally a definite diagnosis is usually made after thoracotomy.
