5 patients with meningeal irritation findings were diagnosed as Central Nervous Seystem (CNS) brucellosis. Diagnosis was made by clinical symptoms, determining the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) findings, and establishing raised antibody titres to Brucella in serum and CSF. Treatment with ritampicin (900 mg/perday) plus doxycycline (200 mg/perday) was given to the patients tor 6 weeks. One of the patients died on the 29 th day of the treatment. Other patierıts were well at the end ot the treatment. On 6 month follow-up after specific therapy was completed, any complaint or recurrence were not observed. Because clinical symptoms and the CFS findings associated with CNS brucellosis may be confused with CNS infections due to Mycobacteria, Treponema, Fungi or Virus, CNS brucellosis should be considered in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of the CNS infections.
