Abstract

The goal of this study is to determine the normal distribution of blood pressure and prevalence of hypertension among Gaziantep residents with the collaboration of Gaziantep University Medical Faculty Department of lnternal Medicine and National Office of Health in Gaziantep, 1992. Blood pressure was measured totally 4874 persons in Gaziantep city and its towns, The prevelance of hypertension was found 23, 1 %. Among that hypertensive persons 57.4% of them had mild, 25.1 % of them had moderate and 17.4% of them had severe elevated of blood pressure. Obesity. dietary habit and smoking was the most important factors affected blood pressure at this region. it is thought that more investigation is necessary for lowering cardiovascular mortality.
