Abstract

Preduodenal position of the portal vein is a rare congenital anomali in which the portal vein passes anteriorly to the duodenum. lnjury to this structure because of failure to recagnize them during biliary, gastric or pancreatic oerations may result in thrombosis or hemorrhage. in this article a case of preduodenal portal vein which was discovered during an elective gastric operation is presented and anatomy and embryology of this structure and surgical significance are discussed. it is also briefly reviewed the previously reported cases.
