105 Boğma raki drinkers living in Kayışlı, Karayusuflu and Hadırlı Villages were undertaken to study for harmfull effects of alcohol on their cardiovascular system. Prevalence of hypertansion was 22.8 % in Boğma raki consumers. The highest prevalance was at 35- 54 age group (25.4%). Electrocardiographic changes such as PR and QTc prolangation left ventricular voltage criteria, premature ectopic beats, and T wave abnormalities were higher in alcoholic group than non-alcoholic group There was no significant difference between hypertensive and non hypertensive alcoholics when considered as plasma magnesium levels (p>0.05). These results confirm that Boğma rakı has mu/tiple effects on cardiovascular system.
