Abstract

In our study, the necessity of ureteral reimplantation (URI) with augmentation cystoplasty (OSP) in cases who had low capasity, hypocompliant neurogenic bladder and vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) were assessed. Between January 1996 and March 2006, A total of 44 myelodysplasic patients (age ranged 2.5-16 (mean 6.4)years, 23 male, 21 girl) were included to the study who had performed OSP. Vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) was found in 24 patients (38 reno-ureteral units-RUU ) in first admission which had grade 3 and lower grade in 12 RUU, grade 4 in 6 RUU and grade 5 in 20 RUU. While ureteral reimplantation was performed with OSP in 5 patients (10 RUU) who had grade 5 VUR, additional operation was not done to remaining other patients. We evaluated that VUR was disappeared in patients who had grade 3 and lower grade VUR, in postoperatively 3th and 12 th months. While persistent VUR was not found in patients who had performed URI together with OSP, low grade persistent VUR established in three of patients who had sole OSP. Ureteral reimplantation is not routinely needed in patients with low capacity, hypocompliant bladder and associated VUR who undergo OSP.
