In our study, we investigated the hematological values, serum iron levels and their correlation in newborn babies and their mothers [42 of them had iron values (50 μg/dL(group 1); 58 of them had iron values )50 μg/dL(group 2)] and their healthy, term babies who had uneventful delivery were entered the study. The serum iron, iron binding capacity, hemoglobin, hematocrit, mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration(MCHC) levels of the mothers and babies were evaluated. The hemoglobin, hematocrit, MCV, MCH, serum iron and iron binding capacities were statistically significant between group 1 and 2. The babies of group 1 and group 2 show no significant correlation according to the same parameters. When to compare all group of mothers and all babies, no statistical significance was found according to the hematological values, iron and iron binding capacity levels.
