Abstract

Objectives: Our aim is to compare the results of the most commonly used analgesic measurement techniques and to determine time and intensity at which the analgesic effects of magnetic field intensities are.

 

Methods: This study compared analgesic effect of magnetic fields (MF) of strengths (1, 5, 10 mT) in 30 adult male Wistar Albino rats of 200- 250 g. Analgesic effects were measured with tail-flick and hot plate tests. To determine optimum MF strength, rats were assigned to four groups: sham, -exposed to a 1 mT MF's, a 5 mT MF´s and a 10 mT MF´s groups. Rats were placed in a solenoid and MFs of 50 Hz for 165 minutes were administered daily for 15 days. All four groups were kept in the solenoid during 165 min.per 15 days and MF exposed. But the analgesic effect was measured just 0th, 4th, 7th, 11th, and 15th days by using tail flick and hot plate. Latencies of analgesia were converted to percent of maximal antinociceptive effects (% - MPE).

 

Results: When the maximum analgesic effect of the 5 mT MF was determined on 7th day % MPEs were 5.37±0.51 in the sham group, 13.66±1.27 in the 1 mT group, 25.89 ± 3.00 in the 5 mT group and 25.37±2.41 in the 10 mT group. The optimum effect was with a 5 mT MF on the 7th day and 90th minutes of being in the solenoid.

 

 

Conclusion: We found they were no differences between analgesic responses to the tail flick and hot plate tests.
