Abstract

Objective: The goal of the study was to investigate the efficacy of haematologic parameters in the diagnosis of missed abortus. Our second aim was to elucidate diagnostic value of maternal serum Cancer Antigen 125 (CA 125) concentrations in missed abortion.

Methods: Haemoglobin, white blood cell (WBC),  neutrophil, lenfocyte,  platelet, mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean platelet volume (MPV), red cell distribution width (RDW) levels in complete blood count samples were obtained from all patients diagnosed with missed abortus (MA) ( n = 90) and cControls group consisted healthy pregnanciesy (n =  143).

Results:  Lenfocyte, platelet and RDW variables were significantly higher in missed abortus group (p = 0.03, p = 0.003, p = 0.005; respectively). High level of RDW was independent predictor of MA (OR: 0.810, p < 0.05). The mean values of CA 125 between groups were similar.  There was no significant difference in other haematologic laboratory parameters between groups.

Conclusion: Of all heametologic inflammatory markers, higher RDW was the only associated marker with missed abortus. RDW might be used as an early promising predictor of MA with low cost. Secondly we found that CA 125 and other heamatologic inflammatory markers such as MPV and NLR are not good markers in prediction of missed abortus.
