Abstract

The differential diagnosis of cystic adnexal masses includes various pathologies, some placed retroperitoneally. Preoperative diagnosis is important to prevent major neurological deficit at surgery. Herein we are presenting a case of anterior sacral meningocele, diagnosed in an infertile woman by the help of magnetic resonance imaging and eliminated with surgery. Performing MRI, in order to find out the origin of retroperitoneal fixated masses, helps for directing the patient to the right consultant department and also may avoid an inappropriate surgical approach, which may be turned into a disaster. A retroperitoneal mass, such as anterior sacral meningocele may contribute to the pathogenesis of infertility by distorting the utero-tuboovarian anatomy.
